32 arrested over Awami League procession in Gulshan

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested 32 leaders and activists of the Awami League, whose activities have been banned, and its associate bodies for allegedly taking part in a procession in the capital's Gulshan area yesterday.

DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Niaz Mehedi confirmed the arrests in a message.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Akter Hossain said the arrests were made in a case filed with Gulshan Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Gulshan Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mokhlesur Rahman told The Daily Star that police filed the case over the procession.

On May 11 last year, the government banned all activities of the Awami League and its associated and affiliated organisations, on allegations of killings, genocide, crimes against humanity, and other grave offences during the July uprising.
