61-yr-old sent to jail over alleged rape of 9-yr-old in Mymensingh

A Mymensingh court today sent a man to jail over the alleged rape of a 9-year-old in Dakshin Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh.

The Senior District Judicial Magistrate sent the accused Md Chhamir Uddin, 61, a farmer from Kandipara area, to jail after police produced him before the court this afternoon, said Md Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Pagla Police Station.

The child's mother filed a case with the police station against Chhamir Uddin on Friday night.

According to the case statement, the 9-year-old girl and a class 3 student lives with her mother and her father is an expatriate.

On August 25, while returning home after her school exams, Chhamir Uddin lured the girl with money, took her to a nearby banana plantation and raped her, it said.

Later, he gave the child Tk 100 and sent her home after threatening her to not disclose the matter to anyone, the OC said quoting the case statement.

After returning home, the child reported the matter to her family. A group of locals tried to settle the matter internally. Receiving the news, police went to her house on Friday afternoon, brought the victim to the police station and detained Chhamir Uddin, the OC said.

Later, a case was filed against him and he was shown arrested in the case.

The child was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for medical examination.
