EC restores candidacy of 41 more aspirants

25 appeals declared invalid today

Forty-one more aspirants regained their candidacy as the Election Commission (EC) today declared their appeals valid for contesting the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Today was the third day of reviewing appeals against returning officers’ decisions to reject nominations. On the day, the EC heard a total of 71 appeals, of which 41 were declared valid, said EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed this afternoon.

He said 25 appeals were declared invalid, four were kept pending, and one was not heard (Pabna-2).

The EC began its hearing on January 10.

As of today, it completed the hearings of a total of 197 appeals, and kept 13 pending.

A total of 645 appeals were filed between January 5 to 9 during the scrutiny of nomination papers.
