It is great to learn that shipbuilding prospects shine bright in Bangladesh. But there is no denying the fact that it has negative impacts on the environment if not properly managed. Bangladesh, India and Pakistan mainly buy these toxic ships for breaking. The working condition at the ship-breaking yards is dangerous and the workers are exposed to severe pollution.
The 'Off the beach' campaign aims to raise public awareness about human rights abuses and pollution caused by ship-breaking yards in South Asia. They also advocate a safe and environmentally sound ship recycling policy. It is high time, we found sustainable solution to this problem.
