Hugo Chavez changed Venezuela in fundamental ways, empowering and energizing millions of poor people who had felt marginalised and excluded. He was the most charismatic Latin American leader after Che Guevara and Fidel Castro. Amid the grief, Venezuelans are sure that Chavez's 14-year legacy would continue and they would vote for his chosen successor, Vice President Nicolas Maduro, in elections expected to take place within 30 days.
