4.0-magnitude earthquake jolts Dhaka, nearby areas

BMD located the epicentre in Narayanganj's Rupganj

A 4.0-magnitude earthquake was felt in Dhaka and surrounding districts at 9:28pm on Monday.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the epicentre was in Rupganj, Narayanganj, about 16 kilometres east of its Agargaon office.

BMD meteorologist Rubaiyat Kabir confirmed the information to The Daily Star.

India’s National Centre for Seismology also recorded the tremor, reporting its epicentre as 156 kilometres west of Gaya in Bihar.
