Govt must show restraint

Many of them had to make the supreme sacrifice to give us a free country. But what a mess we have made! Everything around us is crumbling down. Sense and sensibility have departed, the country is heading towards anarchy and political situation has become so volatile that any moment a catastrophe may take place. Police action on the opposition political parties is so bizarre that we have to gasp with disbelief. Maybe they are trying to impress home minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, who awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal and President Medal to Harun-Ur-Rashid, DC of Lalbagh division for beating up opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abedin Farroque on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital on July 6, 2011, when he was leading a group of opposition lawmakers during a hartal enforced by the BNP. Police force is maintained by the taxpayers' money. How could they act so inhumanely with the people on whom they are dependent? We urge the government to show restraint.
