10 types of vaccines, including MMR, arrive in Bangladesh

Health minister says there's no risk of a vaccine shortage in the near future

A new consignment of 10 types of vaccines, including measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) and oral polio vaccine (OPV), has arrived in the country.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Sakhawat Husain received the vaccines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today.

In addition to MMR and polio vaccines, the consignment includes BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin), pentavalent vaccine, Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV), and typhoid vaccines.

After receiving the consignment, the health minister said that a total of 15 lakh doses of measles vaccine have already arrived in the country. He added that there is no possibility of any vaccine shortage in the near future.

The government has set a new record by importing the vaccines within 24 days, the minister said, adding that 1.8 crore doses of 10 different vaccines, including the measles vaccine, will arrive in the country by May 10.
