The full verdict delivered by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1) in a crimes against humanity case filed over atrocities committed during the July uprising, in which ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her top aides were convicted, was published today.

The 453-page full text of the verdict was uploaded to the website of ICT chief prosecutor’s office this morning. The tribunal delivered its judgement on November 17 last year.

In the verdict, the tribunal sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising. It also handed down the same sentence to her government’s former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan. The tribunal further ordered confiscation of the properties of both convicts in favour of the state.

Both Hasina and Asaduzzaman are currently absconding.

In the same case, former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who turned approver (state witness) in the case, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.

The verdict relates to allegations of widespread killings and other atrocities carried out during the 2024 mass uprising, which ultimately led to the fall of the then government.
