Mighty auto-rickshaw drivers
The most powerful people in Bangladesh, in my view, are the CNG-run auto rickshaw drivers. So I try my best to avoid any kind of conversation with them. But a person who does not own a private vehicle in Dhaka, has fewer options than to seek their help. Earlier people used to offer an extra amount of tk. 20 or 30 along with the meter fare and the driver would oblige. But the other day I found that most of the three-wheelers did not have any meter at all and all of them were demanding abnormally high fares.
Our communications minister has promised many good things. But I think not one percent of those promises have been implemented. Instead, things have got worse: the meters of the CNG auto rickshaws have vanished. Maybe even politicians and ministers do not want to mess with the mighty drivers of the CNG-run three-wheelers!
