Modern treatment for Acne
Most people experience some form of Acne during their life time. It is mostly a disease of adolescent and frequently resolves in mid twenties. However, it can arise later in life and sometimes becomes a serious cause for cosmetic concern. It may have significant and enduring emotional and psychological effects and negatively impact mood, self-esteem and interpersonal relationships and may lead to depression. With proper preventive measure and timely treatment, acne is barely remains a problem.
With treatment, acne is curable, but treatment modalities are variable and many times, long-term treatments required.
The majority of people who get acne will develop mild acne. This can usually be treated with OTC (over-the-counter) medications. They are usually applied to the skin — topical medicines.
If your acne is more severe you should consider seeing a dermatologist — a skin specialist. The specialist may prescribe an oral or topical antibiotic or other powerful drug that can combat the growth of bacteria causing acne and reduce inflammation. Prescription medications for acne are presented in many forms, such as creams, lotions etc. Your dermatologist will decide what is best for you.
