Narayanganj-4: BNP-led alliance candidate Monir Hossain Kasemi sued for defamation

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Narayanganj unit president Mufti Monir Hossain Kasemi, also the BNP-led alliance candidate for the Narayanganj-4 constituency, has been sued for defamation.

Mohammad Akash, a journalist of online portal newsnarayanganj24.com, filed the case today with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin, accusing Mufti Monir and some 15-20 unnamed persons, said Khorshed Alam, a lawyer for the complainant.

After recording the complainant’s statements, the court ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the case, he said.

According to the case documents, on February 1, a fan page run by the accused had uploaded objectionable, defamatory, and false content using the logos of newsnarayanganj24.com and its official Facebook page Newsnarayanganj Digital, along with photos of the organisation’s officials.

The complainant alleged that Kasemi and other unidentified accused posted false, offensive, embarrassing, and defamatory information against newsnarayanganj24.com and News Narayanganj Digital, causing reputational damage and financial losses estimated at Tk 1 crore.
