The administration of Jagannath University has decided to launch a renewed initiative to recover its long‑occupied residential halls.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Vice‑Chancellor Prof Dr Rais Uddin in the university’s conference room today.

The meeting discussed legal and administrative measures alongside political coordination to facilitate the recovery process.

The estate office presented an overview of the current status of 12 university‑owned halls, including details of occupiers and updates on ongoing legal cases.

The VC announced that a committee will be formed immediately to oversee the recovery process, with a meeting scheduled later this week with the local member of the parliament.

“We will begin the hall recovery process with renewed momentum based on the opinions shared in the meeting,” he said.

Necessary documents, including land records, are being collected, and a step‑by‑step policy will be formulated to reclaim each hall, he mentioned.

Treasurer Prof Dr Sabina Sharmin emphasised the need for a coordinated approach involving social, legal, and political dimensions.

Student leaders and representatives of various student organisations stressed avoiding compromise and called for reclaiming the halls in full, expressing hope for government cooperation.

Among those present were Acting Registrar Prof Dr Md Sheikh Gias Uddin, the proctor, the director of student welfare, representatives of the teachers’ association, faculty members, officials, and journalists.
