On PM's request to call off hartal
An article titled 'Why hartal not withdrawn?' by Syed Badrul Ahsan was published in the October 27 issue of the TDS. In one place he wrote, “The BNP's response to the PM's call leaves the nation stupefied. It gives us reason to think that the doors that have been opened by the PM's call to Khaleda might get shut again if the ruling party now chooses to retreat from the gesture.” We want to inform Syed Badrul Ahsan that the nation is not stupefied. They know it from the beginning when AL-led government suddenly ditched the CTG system from the constitution. The opposition political party and 90% of the people were protesting against it demanding reinstatement of the system.
We learned that PM urged BNP chief to call off the hartal and Khaleda Zia said it was not possible to withdraw the hartal then. We wonder why the PM waited so long to make the phone call and made it in the last moment. Was it intentional so that the ruling party could blame the opposition party for not responding to the PM's request? Anyway, we have had enough. They must come to an understanding without delay and save the country from any disastrous consequences.
