Army can't sit idle Khaleda tells Bogra rally it 'would play role in due time', threatens to paralyse country (March 25, 2013) Shafiqur Rahman Khaleda Zia's comments show the signs of a person lacking in confidence and who holds little value as a politician. Her career as the opposition leader has gone downhill for these types of comments. Monju Huq We believe that the army will not interfere in the democratic process of the country despite desperate provocation by Khaleda Zia. It is now clear that she purposely created anarchy in the country so that army could get the excuse to intervene. M H Khan It is a clear provocation. Her comments are undemocratic. Ziaul Hoque It seems Khaleda Zia is trying to the set stage for another 1/11. Her goal is simple: she wants power at any cost. To meet that end, she has already compromised with war criminals dumping her husband's ideals. Now this leader of democracy has decided to dump democracy by calling in undemocratic powers. Niloufar Naseem Sarker This is a call for an army coup in the country. M Shafiqula I think there are readers with other views. Our army is not alien; they are sons of this soil and in the critical time of the nation they will be with the people, as is outlined by the opposition leader and has been explained later by Mr. Fakhrul. Meanwhile, the PM and the ruling party must come up with ways to overcome the current political crisis instead of engaging themselves in the blame game, as this crisis has arisen due to the scrapping of caretaker government system. Akhtaruzzaman Shohag The speech of Khaleda Zia reminds me of the line from the song "Hotel California" by Eagles: "We are all just prisoners here, of our own device". We don't expect to hear this type of irresponsible comment from the opposition leader. Bangladesh is not her leasehold and no one has given her the license to do whatever she likes such as "crippling" the country. S M Iftekhar Ahmed Khaleda Zia's tone is very threatening. She is attracting attention for the wrong reasons. BNP had lost their best chance to gain support against the ineptness of the government when they had sided with Jamaat instead of people, and insulted the Shahbagh protestors whose spirit fortunately continues to grow. Hossain What is the role of an opposition party in a country? The opposition party leader should talk on behalf of the people to the government in the appropriate forum, which is parliament. Our opposition leader Khaleda Zia is not attending the parliament meetings, but she is inviting army to play a role. What a shame! Shaheen Subhan She is desperate to take control of the country, even with the help of army. Khaleda Alam, Canada How can an opposition leader say that army will play its role in due time? Iftekhar Hassan Calling openly for military intervention in the affairs of a democratic country can never be accepted.
