We know hartal is a democratic right, a peaceful way to demonstrate your difference of opinion. Unfortunately, this weapon of demonstration is becoming a weapon of destruction. Today hartal means unending violence, arsons, killings, bomb blasts and senseless vandalism destroying national wealth. The hartals have increased our agony. This is not at all desirable. This country has not been sold to the political parties. They have not been given the license to do whatever they wish. By calling on a hartal, the BNP, Jamaat and their allies have brought the entire country to a halt. Jamaat has done nothing for the development of the country. They did nothing to enlighten the life of our people. On the contrary, they went against our Liberation War and are still pushing innocent Muslims into darkness through giving false interpretation of Islam. They are using religion to achieve their political ambitions.
