Prescription for managing hospitals
The healthcare system of Bangladesh is currently undergoing a lot of changes. Today, hospital jobs are in high demand throughout the world including Bangladesh. Hospitals appoint all levels and types of professionals including clinicians and allied health professionals as well as professional experienced with hospital management. Professionals for administrative or management purpose includes everyone from the janitors to the executives, and people in between.
In Bangladesh, most of the hospitals especially public hospitals are yet to recognise the importance of hospital administrators. Policy makers or owners still think that their role in running a hospital is not that important as clinician. After the entry of few corporate hospitals in Dhaka city, the role and need of hospital administrators has increased significantly.
In fact, hospital management executives are like small-town mayors. They should have management skills along with a healthcare related background. Hospital management and administration is concerned with the organisation, coordination, planning, staffing, evaluating and controlling of health services for the people.
The main aim is to provide quality healthcare to people in a cost-effective way. Skilled hospital administrators have proven how hospital/centres can be managed properly and economically in a given time period.
There has been a notable growth in the hospital industry in Bangladesh, which has lead to a great demand of the hospital management related independent courses. Unfortunately we do not have a single independent institute or centre for hospital/healthcare management.
