Here are some comments that came in response to Sunday's The Daily Star news report headlined “Safety is all they want” Kish No doubt that Jamaat-Shibir is there inside our administration. Or, the admin is run by some dense brains. What we can guess from far they cannot understand being on the spot. Another possibility is that the government wants these for its political interest before election (although this may now go against the government because of its failure to control the situation). Chandro Let not the criminals go unpunished. S. Shamim I have seen from both the print and electronic media that many young Madrasa students took part in the destructive activities of Jamaat-Shibir activists. They might be brain-washed to do these un-Islamic acts in the name of religion. The Madrasa education system should be reformed appropriately. Nabarun Dey 12000 accused, 14 held; 4 released subsequently. With these figures and prevalent government apathy the future of Bangladesh seems very bleak. Asad God, help our beloved Bangladesh. Anamika The government should give the victims full compensation by calculating their losses properly. And the criminals should be punished severely so that it should not happen again in the country. Dev Saha I would not be surprised to see this inhuman crime go unpunished again as in the past. These unfortunate victims do not have the money to build their houses again and hence, they will be forced to sell their land and move on with their lives. The land will be purchased by the locals for peanuts and the victims will be landless in their own country. Have we not seen this before? Reaz Hassan The National Human Rights Commission should have condemned all violence irrespective of religious belief. Bibi What is going on the country? Killings, vandalism, arson, rampage, attack on minorities etc. etc. We are tired of these. The victims deserve justice and it is a must. The criminals must be punished.
