Spare the people from continued suffering

Nur Jahan , Chittagong
We achieved our victory on December 16, 1971 and people of our country had tears in their eyes from sheer joy and happiness. Now after 42 years of independence, people have tears again in their eyes, but this is from frustration, pain and fear from the present unbearable situation in the country. People have become hostage to the political parties. Their sufferings due to the present political unrest is unimaginable. The party in power has got responsibility to look after the welfare of the people and for this they should maintain a good relationship with the opposition. But this culture is absent in our country. The main demand of the opposition is the reinstatement of the caretaker government system and people think it is their rightful demand. The Awami League at one time wanted it and now they cannot abolish it at their whims. It is most unjust. We do not understand why Awami League-led government has become so afraid to hold the next general election under a neutral government. They are continuously saying that people are with them. Then why this reluctance to reinstate the CTG? We want the political parties to come to an understanding and spare the people from further sufferings.
