AL picks Titu for maiden MCC polls

Ruling Awami League has chosen Ekramul Haque Titu as its candidate in the maiden Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) elections slated for May 5.

Titu, the incumbent administrator of MCC, got the party ticket for mayoral post, our local correspondent reports quoting Aminul Haque Shamim, vice president of AL Mymensingh district unit.

AL Nomination Board confirmed the nomination of Titu for MCC polls today, he said.

In an impromptu reaction, Titu thanked the party Chief Sheikh Hasina for nominating him for the post.

Titu, the vice president of city unit AL, was also the mayor of now-defunct Mymensingh Municipality.

Mymensingh city unit of Awami League (AL) on Tuesday sent a proposal of six mayoral aspirants to the central committee.

MCC POLLS SCHEDULE

Election Commission’s Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed on March 25 announced the schedule for the city polls.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used at all the voting centres, he said while announcing the MCC election schedule.

As per the schedule, the commission fixed April 8 for submission of nomination papers while April 10 for scrutinising the nominations and April 17 for withdrawal of the nominations.

Bangladesh government on April 2 last year recognised Mymensingh as the country’s twelfth city corporation.
