SA, Australia notch big wins
South Africa stomped to a record-breaking 86-run victory over Ireland in their Group A encounter of the Women's World Twenty20 at the Sylhet Cricket Stadium yesterday.
On winning the toss, South Africa chose to bat first and put up 165 runs for the loss of five wickets, thanks to rapid-fire 63 runs scored in the last three overs.
Middle-order batsman Chloe Tryon slammed an unbeaten 35 off just 12 balls, with the help of three sixes, while Sune Luus scored 29 runs in 10 balls to take the total to 165.
After a brief period of resilience by Mary Waldron and skipper Isobel Joyce in the second wicket, Ireland's chase was cut short by Shabnim Ismail's medium pacers and Dane van Niekerk's off-breaks.
In the second match of the day, Australia hammered Pakistan with a 94-run defeat to edge closer to the semifinals.
Opener Elyse Villani scored an unbeaten 90 off just 54 balls -- the innings was illustrated by six fours and five sixes -- while skipper Meg Lanning scored 50 runs off 33 balls with the help of five boundaries and two sixes as Australia amassed 185 for two.
In reply, Pakistan managed only 91 runs losing nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Only the two Pakistani opening batswomen could reach double figures as the rest folded against some good bowling, led by Ellyse Perry and Sarah Coyte who took three wickets apiece.
