The Revenant
In the 1820s, a frontiersman, Hugh Glass, sets out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling. What drives a person to survive in the harshest of conditions? That was the question Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu kept turning over in his mind during the making of The Revenant. The tale he wanted to tell was an epic on a personal scale: a man hunting beaver on the Missouri River is attacked by a bear, and left for dead by his party of fur trappers. This man, so incensed by being abandoned, finds the strength to crawl 200 miles in pursuit of his faithless friends, bent on exacting revenge. Based on the true story of Hugh Glass, The Revenant is releasing on December 25th December in the US followed by a worldwide release on January 8th. Only time will tell whether this will be one of the many gems that Dicaprio manages to make.
