Review: To say this wasn't one of the most hyped movies of 2016 can almost be considered a crime. Ever since Ryan's last portrayal of the iconic character back in Wolverine's film, fans have demanded a dedicated film for Deadpool, with a thorough revisal of the character of course, as that Deadpool was beyond abysmal.
This new film portrays a Deadpool that fans are more familiar with; deadly, unpredictable, and a few screws loose. This film is about his origins, a brief look at his life before he underwent a government mutant weapon program and ended up donning the red spandex. The primary focus of the film seems to be his hell-bent desire to exact revenge on those who tricked him into the program without letting him in on its side effects.
With the general plot-points, sans the ending, out of the way, lets address the elephant in the room; does it live up to all the hype it created for itself? In short, yes. Ryan Reynolds has portrayed a lot of cool characters over his career (we'll ignore the disaster that was Green Lantern), but it seems he was born to be Deadpool. He pulls off the Merc with the Mouth so exquisitely, that it almost feels like the creators thought of Ryan when they came up with Wade (Deadpool). The story, while fun and full of off-color jokes and violent action, felt slightly off-pace at times, but that's to be expected in many of these superhero origin stories, which is why you hear Deadpool constantly crack jokes about superhero origin films and of course, the new trend of adding teaser scenes at the end of the credit rolls. The only thing that didn't really shine in the entire film was the ending. I guess with Deadpool being the way he is in the comics, it's an ending that I didn't quite expect. Other than that, this is easily one of the top films of 2016, and a must-see. A word of advice; leave the kids at home for this one.
