Modi mourns Khaleda Zia, hopes her legacy guides bilateral ties
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
In a Facebook post this morning, Modi said he was "deeply saddened" to learn of Khaleda Zia's passing and conveyed his "sincerest condolences" to her family and the people of Bangladesh.
He prayed that the Almighty grant her family the strength to bear the loss.
Describing Khaleda Zia as the first woman prime minister of Bangladesh, the Indian PM said her important contributions to the country's development, as well as to India-Bangladesh relations, would always be remembered.
He also recalled a warm meeting with Khaleda Zia in Dhaka in 2015, expressing hope that her vision and legacy would continue to guide bilateral partnership between the two neighbouring countries.
The post concluded with a prayer for her eternal peace.
