Imrul flies down under, will replace Anamul
Anamul Haque's World Cup campaign came to a sad end yesterday as it was revealed that the opener suffered a Grade 3 injury in his right shoulder. While attempting to save a boundary at long-leg during yesterday's game against Scotland, Anamul landed awkwardly on his shoulder after a dive.
As soon as he got up, Anamul could barely move his right arm. He merely rolled the ball with his left arm and fell down in pain. He was immediately taken to a hospital for an MRI. It's still not certain as to how long the player will be out; he will however not be able to take any further part in the World Cup.
Opener Imrul Kayes is likely to join the team in Australia as his replacement. Imrul, who was busy playing the National Cricket League until yesterday, left for Australia last night. Once the technical committee of the ICC approves the replacement, Imrul will be available for the Tigers.
Anamul will be the second player after Al-Amin Hossain, who was sent back home on disciplinary grounds, that the Tigers will replace in the mega event. Earlier pacer Shafiul Islam, who had played a heroic role in the 2011 World Cup against England in Chittagong, replaced Al-Amin.
