MR. EFFICIENT
KUMAR SANGAKKARA
Amidst all the razzmatazz of the de Villierses or Maxwells, who are in some way changing the nature of batting, there is one very classic copy-book cricketer who is holding his own with great dignity and success. True to his style and elegance, Kumar Sangakkara is proving everyday that there is reward to be had even if you stay conventional. The 37-year-old batsman, having already decided to quit one-day cricket after this World Cup and Test cricket this August, is reminding us how much we will miss him with record-breaking knocks. Yesterday while scoring an almost effortless hundred against Australia, the master batsman climbed to the top of run-getter's list; became only the second man to reach the 14,000-run mark and, most tellingly, became the only man to score three consecutive centuries in a World Cup. You won't bet against him getting a fourth in the next match, will you?
