Bumrah likely to miss Sri Lanka Tests

India are likely to miss pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in the two-match Test against Sri Lanka after the fast bowler failed to recover from a knee injury sustained during last month's ODI series against England.

Bumrah, 32, had been included in India's squad for the series subject to clearing a fitness test. With almost four weeks between the squad announcement and the first Test in Galle on August 15, the team management had hoped he would regain full fitness in time.

However, the Indian pacer experienced discomfort in his knee during rehabilitation, delaying his return. While there remains a possibility of him being fit for the second Test, India are unlikely to rush him back given his history of injuries.

Bumrah was expected to resume bowling this weekend, but the setback is now likely to keep him out for at least another couple of weeks.

The 52-Test veteran has endured a stop-start career due to injuries, including a serious back problem that sidelined him for an extended period. Since returning, India have carefully managed his workload to avoid further setbacks.

His absence is a significant blow to India's hopes in the World Test Championship. To remain in contention for the final, India need strong results from their upcoming four Tests against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

Without Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj is expected to lead India's pace attack, with Prasidh Krishna likely to provide support. Neither has extensive experience of playing Test cricket in Sri Lankan conditions, adding to India's challenge ahead of the series.
