'I think someone in the team doesn't like me'
Bangladesh paceman Abu Jayed Rahi, who was excluded from the side for the Sri Lanka tour, failed to find a clear reason behind him being dropped and said maybe someone inside the team does not like him.
"I don't think the coach, captain or the selectors have a problem with me. I think someone in the team doesn't like me, I don't think there could be other reasons. If Shohidul [Islam] was not picked, I would've thought that there was no need for pacers here," Jayed told The Daily Star on Tuesday.
Jayed had been Bangladesh's main pace bowler before the tour of New Zealand this year. Having picked up four wickets in the warm-up match in New Zealand, he was left out of the playing eleven in both Tests there before also finding himself out of the playing eleven in South Africa.
The 28-year-old said that no one informed him even over a phone call that he was being dropped from the Sri Lanka series altogether.
"What's happening to me is bad. I was dropped suddenly and no one even called me over the phone to communicate the decision," he said.
Jayed, who last played in November during the home series against Pakistan, said he is not under any contracts at the moment either with the BCB or domestic cricket. "I have been left out of the central contract and I am not under any domestic contract. I was injured during the BPL and was in rehabilitation. I went to South Africa to play the series and after I returned, I was excluded from the side. Where will my career go? Where is my income source?
"I contacted the board but I wasn't given assurance that I will be included in the contracted list for one format or another. I got three wickets in the warm-up match in New Zealand. If the board didn't see me play after that, how can they judge? I was in New Zealand for 30 days while BCL was going on. After I returned, I had to go through rehabilitation. Then I didn't play in South Africa. Where will I play now?"
When asked about Jayed's reaction to exclusion from the side, selectors did not want to comment on the matter.
