Rana, Taskin to depart for Perth on Tuesday

Bangladesh pacers Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed are set to leave for Australia on Tuesday night for medical assessments, BCB sources confirmed.

Rana, who has been ruled out of the two-match Test series against Australia starting on August 13, will undergo medical checkups in Perth for a shin bone issue. BCB regularly monitors Rana's condition, with cricket operations chairman Shahriar Nafees describing the assessment as part of a routine process.

“They are leaving for Perth where they will go for overall scans. Taskin had several issues from before and he needed first-hand assessment, so that going forward there is no problem. His assessment is mostly for prevention and he available for selection,” a team management official informed.

“Rana has a shinbone issue but he is going for overall scans, and so is Taskin,” a BCB medical department source said.

Rana was ruled out of the Australia series with a Grade 2 side strain and is expected to return to Bangladesh after completing his assessment. Taskin, meanwhile, is scheduled to link up with the Bangladesh squad in Darwin ahead of the first Test.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh are also awaiting Shoriful Islam's recovery from the hamstring injury he suffered in Zimbabwe. Sources said on Monday that the left-arm pacer is making steady progress and, if he passes a fitness test on August 12, is expected to join the squad for the second Test in Mackay, which begins on August 22.
