‘This is for you, Papa’: Urvil Patel’s 13-ball fifty tribute steals the show
Urvil Patel produced one of the most memorable performances of IPL 2026 on Sunday, smashing a record-equalling 13-ball fifty during Chennai Super Kings’s chase against Lucknow Super Giants in Chennai.
Patel lit up M. A. Chidambaram Stadium with an explosive innings, taking apart the Lucknow bowling attack from the start. His most damaging over came against leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi, whom he hit for five consecutive sixes.
The right-hander reached his half-century in just 13 balls, matching the IPL record previously set by Yashasvi Jaiswal for Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023.
After completing the milestone, Patel pulled out a handwritten note from his pocket that read, “This is for you papa,” drawing a huge reaction from the crowd and on social media.
Patel continued his aggressive approach even after the fifty and survived one dropped catch by Rathi before Shahbaz Ahmed finally dismissed him for 65 off 23 balls. Avesh Khan completed the catch near the boundary.
By the time Patel walked back, Chennai were cruising at 127/2.
