Bangladesh seeks strong footballing ties with Italy

Bangladesh has expressed interest in inviting renowned Italian footballers and clubs to visit the country and play friendly matches as part of efforts to strengthen cultural and sporting ties with Italy.

Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir extended the invitation to Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Antonio Alessandro, during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Tejgaon office on Sunday, a foreign ministry statement said.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to deepen the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Italy, alongside a range of issues of mutual interest.

Ambassador Alessandro expressed Italy’s interest in importing more Bangladeshi products, including ready-made garments, food items and leather goods, while both sides explored new opportunities for expanding bilateral trade.

The ambassador also encouraged Bangladesh to import advanced Italian technology and industrial machinery to support the modernisation of the country’s industrial sector.

The discussions further covered cooperation on safe and regular migration management, as well as strengthening ties in trade, defence, culture, sports and migration.
