Dorielton quadruple eases Kings into quarters
Bashundhara Kings stormed into the quarterfinals of the Federation Cup after a 4-1 thrashing of Bangladesh Police FC, finishing top of Group B on goal difference at the Bashundhara Kings Arena on Tuesday.
Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes produced a sensational four-goal performance to power the defending champions to the top of the group. The prolific striker, already leading the Bangladesh Football League scoring chart, also moved to the top of the tournament’s scoring list with seven goals.
The match could have taken a different turn had Police’s Paulo Henrique converted a penalty in the 36th minute with the score still goalless. However, his effort crashed against the crossbar, allowing Kings to escape.
Dorielton made no such mistake at the other end, opening the scoring from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time. He doubled the lead with a brilliant solo effort seven minutes after the restart and completed his hat-trick with a header from Rakib Hossain’s cross in the 83rd minute.
The Brazilian capped off his outstanding display with a fine finish in the 88th minute, taking his tally to seven goals in the competition and 20 for the season, before MS Bablu pulled one back for Police in added time.
In the other Group B match, Mohammedan secured a 4-0 victory over Arambagh KS at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium to finish runners-up.
Saurav Dewan struck a late hattrick, scoring in the 76th, 83rd and 89th minutes, after Jewel Mia had given Mohammedan the lead in the 40th minute. Arambagh’s Ben Quansah was sent off in the 60th minute for an elbow on an opponent.
Both Mohammedan and Kings finished on eight points, but the latter advanced as group winners due to a superior goal difference.
