Neymar's Santos future in doubt amid growing tensions

Brazilian superstar Neymar's future at Santos appears increasingly uncertain, with reports suggesting his contract is unlikely to be extended beyond its expiry in December 2026 amid mounting tensions within the club.

According to Brazilian outlet Globo, the 34-year-old forward has become a source of frustration for teammates, coaching staff and club officials since returning to his boyhood club. The report claims concerns have grown over his attitude and behaviour, making him difficult to manage on a daily basis, while some players have been left unhappy by what they perceive as a self-centred approach.

Questions over Neymar's leadership also emerged after an argument with teammate Robinho Jr during a training session in May, raising doubts over his role as one of the squad's senior figures.

The situation worsened during Santos' Copa Sudamericana campaign. As the team prepared to travel to Venezuela for an international fixture, Neymar was seen taking part in a poker tournament in Sao Paulo, drawing criticism from supporters and the media. He later responded on social media and reignited debate by celebrating a goal against Chapecoense with a card-dealing gesture, an apparent reference to the controversy.

Globo also reported that Neymar has grown tired of the demands of professional football and the club's day-to-day routine. The report claims he has considered retirement but continues playing because of commitments linked to his father and existing commercial agreements.

Following Santos' 2-2 draw with Chapecoense, Brazilian media reported that Neymar verbally abused young teammates Gabriel Bontempo and Joao Ananias in the dressing room. Neymar has strongly denied those allegations on social media, describing the reports as completely false.
