Award-winning athlete Mimu no more

State award-winning former athlete Shamima Sattar Mimu passed away late on Friday night at her residence in Dhaka after suffering a cardiac arrest. 

She was a former executive committee member of the Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF), former Deputy Director (Training) at BKSP, and a recipient of the National Sports Award. 

Her son, Shahriar Sharif, confirmed the news of her passing. According to family sources, she had been suffering from diabetes and heart-related complications for a prolonged period. In line with her final wishes, arrangements have been made to take her body to Dinajpur for burial beside her father’s grave.

During her long association with athletics administration, she served the Bangladesh Athletics Federation with dedication and commitment. She also played key roles as a coach and judge in numerous national and international athletics competitions and development programmes. 

The president, general secretary, executive committee members, officials, coaches, athletes and all stakeholders of the BAF have expressed deep sorrow over her demise.
