Season best not enough as Imranur exits 60m at World Indoors
Bangladesh’s fastest man, Imranur Rahman, clocked a season-best time at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland but was unable to advance from the 60-metre heat, finishing fifth out of seven on Friday.
Imranur recorded 6.71 seconds in Heat 2 at Kujawy Pomorze, falling 0.09 seconds short of qualifying for the semifinals. Portuguese sprinter Eloy Benitez secured the final spot with a time of 6.62 seconds.
The 2023 Asian Athletics Indoor Championships gold medallist had earlier this year competed in the 60 m semifinals of the 12th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tianjin, China, clocking 6.75 seconds. He had reached the semifinals by finishing second in his heat with a time of 6.73 seconds.
Reflecting on his performance, Imranur said, “Season’s best but personal best improvement; need to do better soon, InshaAllah.”
He also extended festive greetings, saying, “Eid Mubarak and take care.”
