Bangladesh finished runners-up in the CAVA Men’s Volleyball Championships after losing 3-0 to unbeaten Pakistan in the final in Islamabad today.

Bangladesh went down 20-25, 16-25 and 20-25 against a Pakistan side that did not drop a single set in six matches throughout the six-team tournament. Bangladesh had also suffered a 3-0 defeat to Pakistan in the group stage.

The men in red and green fought strongly at the start of all three sets and even took leads at times, but failed to maintain their momentum midway through each set. Pakistan’s Murad and Osman proved decisive with powerful smashes, while Bangladesh’s erratic defence and the hosts’ clever placement into open spaces added to their problems.

Before reaching the final, Bangladesh beat Kazakhstan 3-2, Nepal 3-2 and Sri Lanka 3-2 before defeating Uzbekistan 3-0 in the semifinals.
