Bangladesh women thrash Chinese Taipei 7-0

Bangladesh made a stunning start to their Junior Asia Cup campaign, thrashing Chinese Taipei 7-0 in their opening match in China on Saturday.

After a goalless first quarter, Bangladesh took control with seven goals over the remaining three periods. Kona Akter opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Nadira Ema and Irene Akter struck twice each in the third quarter.

Sarika Rimon completed the rout with two penalty-corner goals in the final quarter, scoring in the 51st and 57th minutes.

Sarika, Ema and Irene finished with two goals apiece, while Kona scored once.

Bangladesh, making only their second appearance in the tournament, face Pakistan tomorrow in their next Challenger Pool match. They finished ninth in the 2024 edition.
