Messi, Mbappe and Haaland: Three stars, one unforgettable World Cup day

What a day it was for football lovers around the world.

The World Cup has always been a stage where legends are born, dreams are realised and history is rewritten. But Tuesday offered something even rarer -- a spectacular celebration of football's past, present and future as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland all delivered unforgettable performances on the same day.

In Kansas City, the spotlight belonged to Lionel Messi.

At 38 years old, when many great players have long stepped away from the game, the Argentine magician once again reminded the world why he is considered one of football's greatest artists. Making his historic sixth World Cup appearance and earning his 200th international cap, Messi produced a dazzling hattrick as Argentina defeated Algeria 3-0.

The first goal arrived in vintage Messi fashion. Receiving a perfectly weighted pass from Rodrigo De Paul, he glided forward before unleashing a magnificent strike from outside the penalty area. Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane got a hand to it, but even that was not enough to stop the inevitable.

The second was born from instinct. Alexis Mac Allister's fierce effort spilled loose, and Messi reacted faster than everyone else to sweep the rebound home. Then came the crowning moment. Set up by Nico Gonzalez, Messi fired an unstoppable finish into the net to complete the first World Cup hattrick of his extraordinary career.

As he walked off to a standing ovation, he had equaled Miroslav Klose's all-time World Cup scoring record of 16 goals. The chants of thousands of Argentine supporters echoed through Kansas City. Time itself seemed to pause in appreciation of a football genius still weaving magic.

Yet while Messi reminded everyone of enduring greatness, another superstar continued his relentless pursuit of immortality.

At MetLife Stadium, Kylian Mbappe once again proved that the World Cup is his favorite stage.

France had been tested by a determined Senegal side before Mbappe broke the deadlock with a clinical finish after being released by Michael Olise. Bradley Barcola doubled the lead, but Senegal fought back through Ibrahim Mbaye.

As tension grew, Mbappe delivered the final blow.

Deep into stoppage time, he raced through and smashed home his second goal of the evening to seal a 3-1 victory. The brace elevated him above Olivier Giroud as France's all-time leading scorer and moved him closer to the summit of World Cup history.

Still only in the prime of his career, Mbappe now stands within touching distance of records once thought untouchable. The boy wonder who dazzled in Russia and captivated the world in Qatar has evolved into France's undisputed leader, carrying the hopes of a nation eager to lift another trophy.

Then, as night fell, a new chapter unfolded.

Norway had waited 28 years to return to the men's World Cup. Their faithful supporters needed a hero.

Erling Haaland answered the call.

Against Iraq, the towering striker announced himself with ruthless efficiency. His first goal showcased the instincts of a born predator, arriving at precisely the right moment to convert David Moller Wolfe's inviting delivery. The second reflected his relentless hunger, as he pressured the Iraqi defence into a mistake before blocking the goalkeeper's clearance into the net.

Norway eventually triumphed 4-1, but Haaland's double stole the headlines. He had now scored on his Bundesliga debut, Premier League debut, Champions League debut and World Cup debut; a remarkable testament to his extraordinary consistency.

Messi offered artistry, Mbappe delivered brilliance and Haaland unleashed raw power.

For football supporters across the globe, it was more than a collection of results. It was a reminder of why they fall in love with the game.
