JOB OF THE DAY
I had submitted my resume to a garments factory in our neighbourhood last month and soon enough I got a call for the aptitude test and then later for a face to face interview. When my parents, friends and relatives heard the news, they requested me not to join the garments sector. When I asked for a reason, they raised many issues, including low salary, not much honour in the job and so on. They requested me to opt for a job in a bank or a multinational organisation. I think that this attitude needs to change. I believe that the apparel industry is a blessing for the unemployed as well as graduates fresh out of college, as it allows them a platform to earn a livelihood. Nowadays, Bangladesh has started exporting RMG products to China and many other developed countries. This industry is moving towards heightened growth and is taking the country forward. Thus, I feel that no one has the right to look down upon the sector, which has given much to our country and its people.

STOP EXPLOITING CHILDREN
I was going to the General Post Office from Motijheel on a hartal day. As I was crossing the road in front of the BDBL Bhaban, I saw a child being escorted by the police to a police van. There was a crowd surrounding the boy, who were shouting and screaming at the boy. When I asked one of the men present there for the reason, he told me that the boy, who would be around 12 years old, was caught red-handed by the police as he was about to set an auto-rickshaw on fire. I was shocked to hear that a young boy, who should have been at school, was being encouraged or forced to fulfill the agenda of a political party. This is not something new in our country, where people are always ready to exploit children of impoverished parents. They are usually offered monetary rewards or brainwashed into thinking that they are fulfilling their part in a cause. It's time that our civil society and NGOs press political parties to stop using children to carry out their agenda.
