Nolan, the Oscar-winning director behind “Inception”, “Interstellar”, “Dunkirk” and “Oppenheimer”, picked up “The Apu Trilogy” while browsing the collection of films in the closet. Speaking about Ray’s work, he singled out “Pather Panchali” (1955), the first instalment of the trilogy, describing it as “an absolutely incredible film” that “just blew my mind”.

The teaser opens on a brooding coastline, with narration—likely by Robert Pattinson—setting a mythic tone: “Darkness. Zeus’ laws smashed to pieces. A kingdom without a king since my master died.” We then glimpse Matt Damon’s Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and a mysterious Jon Bernthal. A distant view of the Trojan Horse rolling into the surf hints at the legendary ruse, before shifting to Holland confronting Bernthal: “I have to find out what happened to my father. When did you last see him?”

The acclaimed director has impressed the internet by choosing to shoot across real locations, rather than relying on CGI or green screens.

“Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using groundbreaking IMAX film technology,” the studio stated. “For the first time, Homer’s foundational saga will be brought to IMAX screens, debuting worldwide on July 17, 2026.”

Following the massive success of “Oppenheimer”, Nolan is expected to begin filming the new movie in the first half of 2025. For Pattinson, 2025 is shaping up to be a busy year, with Warner Bros planning to film a sequel to “The Batman”, where he’ll reprise his role as the DC superhero.
