A rain-soaked evening at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) set the stage for the launch of the Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) 2027 yesterday (June 19), bringing together filmmakers, students, academics, and industry professionals for a celebration of storytelling and accessible cinema.

“Bonolota Sen” is rooted in the poetry of Jibanananda Das. The film stars Masuma Rahman Nabila in the title role, with Khairul Basar portraying the poet Jibanananda Das.

For Khairul Basar, “Bonolota Sen”, directed by Masud Hasan Ujjal, has been as much a creative gamble as it has been a career-defining artistic journey — one shaped by uncertainty, fragmented direction, and an unusually long process of discovery.

With six films currently eyeing release this Eid-ul-Azha, director Masud Hasan Ujjal is stepping into the festive release race with quiet confidence and a deeply personal cinematic philosophy. His upcoming film, “Bonolota Sen”, arrives years after his acclaimed feature “Unoponchash Batash”.

Several films are expected to hit theatres this upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, with announcements already made for titles including “Prince”, “Domm”, “Rakkhosh”, “Bonolota Express” and “Pinik”, among others. The list has now expanded with the addition of “Bonolata Sen”.

The much-anticipated government-grant film “Banalata Sen”, directed by Masud Hasan Ujjal, has completed all phases of production—including shooting, dubbing, editing, colour grading, and background scoring—and is preparing for submission to the Bangladesh Film Censor Board. The director has revealed that the plan is to hopefully release the film this September.

Rapper Hannan Hossain Shimul, who recently released his rap about the quota reform movement, was arrested on July 25 by police officers. He was subsequently held on a two-day remand. 

Actress Masuma Rahman Nabila, known for her role in the film "Aynabaji", is making headlines again. Nabila, who starred in the 2016 movie opposite Chanchal Chowdhury, is now set to appear in her next feature film. Quietly wrapping up the shooting for the film, this model and actress is now engaged in its post-production work.
