TASHER DESH

Celebrating Life is proud to present the dance drama Tasher Desh, which will be produced by Shadhona. Tasher Desh is one of Tagore's most famous dance operas, a unique genre he developed that was influenced by Western opera. It is inspired by Alice in Wonderland and is a satire on the rigidity of the class systems of the British Raj and India. Tagore wrote the script and composed the melodies of the piece which was first performed in Kolkata in 1923. Shadhona's production of it is truly marvelous.

Shadhona is a trust that was initiated, initially, with the aim of revitalizing and expanding the horizons of classical dance and music in Bangladesh. Through the years Shadhona has moved on to promote all aspects of Bangladeshi culture. The Centre has been working tirelessly for the last two decades to promote the rich cultural heritage of South Asia among young Bangladeshis through various events, workshops and training programs. Shadhona also believes in building regional bonds through cultural exchanges. Warda Rihab is the dance director for the Tasher Desh presentation today. She is a professional dancer, who trained in Chhayanaut under various Manipuri artists, as well as a successful choreographer.
Along with the dance drama presentation Tasher Desh, acclaimed actor and singer Shampa Reza will also be gracing the stage to treat the audience to her wonderful singing.
