Bangladesh trials Starlink internet on trains

Tech & Startup Desk

Bangladesh has begun testing satellite-based internet services on moving trains for the first time using Starlink, the satellite internet service by Elon Musk's SpaceX.

The pilot initiative has been launched by Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) in collaboration with Bangladesh Railway. The service is currently being tested on several intercity trains, allowing passengers to access onboard Wi-Fi powered by satellite connectivity.

According to a press release by BSCL, the trial began on March 13 and initially covers 3 trains: Parjatak Express, Upaban Express, and Bonolota Express. Passengers travelling on these services can connect to the network by scanning a QR code inside the train.

If the pilot proves successful, satellite-based internet could gradually be introduced on other high-demand intercity services.
