Elon Musk remains the richest person in the world

Elon Musk, the famed founder of Tesla and SpaceX, remains the world's richest man. According to Forbes, he now leads Amazon founder Jeff Bezos by US$100 billion, who is in second place.

In recent times, Amazon's share dropped around 3% which wiped out $6bn worth of assets of Bezos. In the meanwhile, Musk added $68bn to his fortune over the past year due to a 33% increase in share price. 

According to Forbes, there are around 2,668 billionaires on their list - a number that was down from last year's record 2,755.

Forbes also reported that 236 people became billionaires for the first time.

The highest number of billionaires are from the USA, a whopping- 735; followed by China (including Hong Kong and Macau) in second with 607. Neighbouring India has 166 billionaires as well.
