WHAT'S SO SPECIAL?
Before we go any further, let's remind ourselves of what Filmy Bahas is. Filmy Bahas, is a rendezvous for filmy dialogue, discussion and debate. Created in fond memory of acclaimed Bangladeshi filmmaker Tareque Masud (1955-2011), it's a platform to bring parallel school of thoughts in contrast to the stereotyped formula films.
Through their efforts they have created a series geared towards introducing budding filmmakers to the veterans of the field. The show is dubbed "Tareque Masud Masters Class", in honor of the filmmaker. Sounds great! But I am sure you are asking how is it different than say tons of other film workshops? Well, for one thing it's been anchored by award-winning Bangladeshi filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Simon. If that wasn't enough to add credibility to its purpose, then how's this for the cherry on the cake? Claire Denis will be the main guest!
To understand the significance of this, you need to know just how important Claire Denis is. Considered as one of the leading auteur director of contemporary French cinema, and nominated for Palme d'Or in Cannes and winner of Golden Leopard in Locarno, Claire Denis was born in 1946 in Paris. Claire made her film debut in 1988 with Chocolat, a semi-autobiographical meditation on African colonialism, which was nominated for Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival. She received the Golden Leopard in Locarno Film Festival for her film Nenette and Boni (1996). Her two films The Intruder (2004) and White Material (2009) were nominated for Golden Lion in Venice Film Festival. She has been a Professor of Film at the European Graduate School Switzerland since 2002.
In a two-day long session, scheduled for December 8th and 9th at Chhayanaut Songskriti Bhaban, Claire will present 6 of her films followed by a dsicussion directed by Kamar Ahmad Simon. Obviously you are now tempted and must be dying to know how you can join. Interested participants are requested to register online form available at facebook.com/Filmy.Bahas by November 22nd.
