Turkey detains 21 academics

Turkish police yesterday detained over a dozen academics who signed a petition criticising the military crackdown in the Kurdish-dominated southeast that angered President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Police launched an operation to detain 21 Turkish academics as part of an investigation accusing them of disseminating "terror propaganda" by signing the petition.
