26 killed in India road accident

At least 26 people were killed when a truck carrying them skidded off the road and overturned in Bhavanagar district of the western Indian state of Gujarat today, police said.

The truck carrying around 60 people of a wedding party fell into a pit while trying to overtake another vehicle on a bridge this morning, Superintendent of Police I M Sayed said.

District Collector Harshad Patel said the deceased included 10 women and five children.

He said 25 people died on the spot, while one died in a hospital.
