'Sharia test' for US Muslims!

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has suggested testing all US Muslims to see if they believe in Sharia law, and deporting those who do. Sharia is a legal code based on the Quran and other Islamic scriptures.

"Western civilisation is in a war. We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background and if they believe in Sharia they should be deported," Gingrich told Fox News' Sean Hannity.

"Sharia is incompatible with western civilisation. Modern Muslims who have given up Sharia, glad to have them as citizens," he added.

Gingrich also suggested monitoring US mosques and jailing anyone who visits websites favouring a terror group.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the attack in Nice as well as the former House Speaker's comments.
