At least 22 people have been injured during formation of Gram Sarkar in Gaibandha and Satkhira.

I Gaibandha, the authorities suspended formation of the bodies in nine wards in Katabari union under Gobindaganj upazila following clashes.

Our correspondent reported from Gaibandha that the authorities suspended election of Gram Sarker in nine wards in Katabari union under Gobindagnaj upazila on Monday as clashes between rival groups injured ten people, three of them seriously.

The committees were scheduled to be formed at Fulher, Modhupur and Nayabander villages.

The four seriously injured are Abdul Jalil, Saiful Islam, Hasan Ali and Motiur Rahman. They were taken to Gobindaganj Health Complex.

Apprehending further clashes, the Upazila Engineer, who represented the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) a the meetings, suspended the polls.

Our Satkhira correspondent reported that at least 12 people were injured in clashes during formation of Gram Sarkar in three unions in Assassumi and Debhata upazilas on Thursday and Saturday respectively.

People 'rejected' two Gram Sarkar bodies in Shyamnagar upazila as those were not formed as per rules.

In ward No 1 in Assassuni union under Assassuni upazila on Thursday, Abu Daud and Razaul contested to be the gannya mannya bakti (elite), a post in the Gram Sarkar.

UNO's representative Sarwar Alam Chowdhury arranged a 'toss' to select one from them.

Abu Daud won the toss. Rejaul rejected it and demanded election.

After exchange of words, he two were locked in a dual that led to a clash between their supporters. Four people were injured.

Eight others were injured as supporters of rival candidates clashed during Gram Sarkar formation in ward No 1 in Noapara union an in ward no 1 in Debhata Sadar union on Saturday. The bodies were not formed there due to the clashes.

On Sunday, two such bodies were formed in ward No 2 in Ramjan Nagar union and in ward No 4 in Iswaripur union in Sayamnagar upazila. But those were 'rejected' by people as voting was not held, sources said.

In Rmjan Nagar union, Union Parishad member Shamsuddin read out names of members of a 13-member Gram Sarkar at a gathering on the premises of a high school in presence of UNO's representative Project Implementation Officer Radheshyam Das.

Many in the crowd protested, demanding election. This led to a clash.

Similar incident happened in ward No 4 in Iswaripur union on same day.
