High school ransacked, 'closed' in Bhola
The misfortune befell on Maniram Maddhamik School at Borhanuddin.
According to delayed reports reaching here, party activists allegedly led the upazila BNP secretary swooped on it and declared it 'closed' as all its teachers did not join a Milad Mahfil at MP Hafiz Ibrahim College there. The incident took place on August 5 when the school was open.
They ransacked the school and assaulted three teachers.
They also put up barricades on roads towards the school.
On next day, they again assaulted three teachers --Haran Mondol, Bidhan and Khokanas they tried to go to school.
On August 8, at about midnight, they ransacked the house of another teacher and took away valuables including electronic goods and ornaments worth Tk one lakh. The teacher fled for life.
Reports reaching Monday said the school remained closed a planned protest procession called by the students and teachers was postponed under political pressure.
Abul Kalam Azad, headmaster of the school, when contacted, confirmed the incidents. He said the school has 13 teachers. Three of them are Muslims and the rest are non-Muslims.
The three Muslim teachers had joined the religious program at the college. "We tried our best to contact the principal-in-charge of MP Hafiz Ibrahim College and secretary of upazila BNP ASM Gaznzvi, but failed", he said.
